Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Security A Double-Edged Sword

At the 5th InfoCom Security Cyprus Conference, I had the opportunity to present on a topic that’s becoming increasingly urgent: Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Security – A Double-Edged Sword. As someone deeply involved in cybersecurity, I’ve seen firsthand how artificial intelligence is transforming our field – both for better and for worse.

ArtificiaI Intelligence brings undeniable advantages. It enhances our ability to detect threats, automate responses, and process vast amounts of data in real time. However, I also emphasized that we must be aware of the risks. Cybercriminals are already exploiting Artificial Intelligence to launch more advanced and harder-to-detect attacks. This dual-edged nature of Artificial Intelligence demands a shift in how we think about security.

In my presentation, I argued that organizations need to evolve from a traditional cybersecurity mindset to a broader, more integrated cyber resilience strategy. This means not only investing in the latest tools but also creating a culture of continuous learning and adaptability. Human expertise must work hand-in-hand with AI-driven systems to anticipate, detect, and respond to ever-evolving threats.

I also highlighted the importance of regulatory frameworks – particularly the NIS2 directive – as essential guides for strengthening our defenses. Proactive compliance and the adoption of best practices are no longer optional; they’re necessary to ensure sustainable protection.

Ultimately, I believe the key to cybersecurity in the ArtificiaI Intelligence era lies in balance. We must embrace innovation, remain vigilant, and recognize that while ArtificiaI Intelligence is a powerful ally, human insight and ethical responsibility remain irreplaceable pillars of resilience.
