Cyber Security Summit 2023 at Costa Navarino

In the past two days, the serene coastal setting of Costa Navarino became the focal point of Greece’s cybersecurity community. The first Cyber Security Summit, brought together the country’s foremost CISOs, cybersecurity leaders, academics, government representatives, and industry experts for two days of dialogue, networking, and strategic exchange at the Cyber Security Summit Costa Navarino 2023 event.
An Exclusive Forum for the Cybersecurity Community
Over 430 one-to-one business meetings took place between CISOs and technology providers, creating a high-value environment for collaboration and partnership. Participants shared perspectives on the operational, organizational, and regulatory challenges defining the modern cybersecurity landscape.
Beyond the formal agenda, the summit also offered a rich social program – from a golf experience and wine masterclass to olive oil tasting sessions, a Gala Dinner, and informal networking cocktails. This blend of business and leisure fostered genuine relationship-building among cybersecurity leaders in a setting that perfectly balanced productivity and relaxation.
Day One: Freedom, Regulation, and the Institutional Landscape
The event opened with a keynote by Professor Dimitris Gritzalis of the Athens University of Economics and Business, who addressed “Freedom and (Cyber)Security: Rights of a Constant Sum.” Gritzalis examined the delicate balance between individual rights and digital safety, reminding the audience that cyberattacks are no longer headline events but part of our everyday reality. He challenged the audience to rethink traditional risk models, noting that “worst-case scenarios” rarely mirror real-world conditions.
Gritzalis then moderated a high-level discussion on “The Unsteady Steps of Cybersecurity Institutions”.
The panelists highlighted the human capital deficit as one of the field’s greatest challenges, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary expertise, combining technical knowledge with legal and policy understanding, while pointing out the institutional and structural difficulties of building robust regulatory frameworks. There was cautious optimism that AI-based solutions could help alleviate some of these gaps in the future.
Day Two: AI, Machine Learning, and the Evolving Role of CISOs
The second day’s keynote by Professor Sokratis Katsikas, Director of the Norwegian Center for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors (NORCICS), explored the question: “Machine Learning and Cyber Security – Allies or Adversaries?” Katsikas presented how AI systems themselves can become attack vectors, vulnerable to manipulations that distort outcomes and undermine trust. He noted that this issue is now at the forefront of European research and regulatory initiatives, as policymakers work to safeguard the integrity of AI-driven technologies.
Later, a dynamic roundtable discussion examined the evolving role of the CISO in the new era, discussed the growing complexity of cyber threats, the chronic shortage of skilled professionals, and the promise of AI automation to free resources and enhance incident response. Education and security awareness emerged as recurring themes, reaffirming that technology alone cannot secure an organization without informed human oversight.
A Strategic Milestone for Greece’s Cybersecurity Ecosystem
The Cyber Security Summit Costa Navarino 2023 succeeded in more than just bringing experts together – it signaled a maturing national dialogue on digital resilience, trust, and collaboration.
By combining strategic insight, expert knowledge, and meaningful networking, the event has set a new benchmark for how Greece’s cybersecurity sector engages with both local and global challenges.
As the digital threat landscape continues to evolve, the summit’s core message was clear; collaboration, education, and innovation will define the next chapter of cybersecurity leadership in Greece and beyond.
