The Evolving Role of CISOs

13th Infocom Security Conference Panel The Evolving Role of CISOs in the Age of Hybrid Business Environment

As I had the honor to moderate the third and final session panel of the 13th Infocom Security Conference, The Evolving Role of CISOs in the Age of Hybrid Business Environment, I couldn’t help but reflect on how dramatically our profession has transformed.

Being a CISO today means far more than defending networks. The hybrid business model, digital transformation, and the ever-changing cyber threat landscape demand a strategic, cross-functional approach. Our responsibilities now span from guiding organizational resilience and aligning security with business goals, to cultivating a security-first mindset across all departments.

The conversation with esteemed colleagues – Panagiotis Anagnostou, Meletis Belsis, Nikos Grigoriadis, Apostolos Doxanidis, and Panagiotis Soulos – highlighted critical points: the need for leadership that drives sustainable growth, the urgency of closing the cybersecurity skills gap, and the importance of embedding security in corporate culture.

We agreed that modern CISOs must be leaders, educators, and innovators. We must not only protect but also enable—ensuring that cybersecurity becomes a business enabler, not a bottleneck.

It was a truly insightful session that reinforced a shared truth: our role is evolving fast, and our impact on business success has never been greater. As we navigate this hybrid future, one thing is clear—collaboration, adaptability, and vision will define the successful CISO.
